Simon Cowell cancels Britain's Got Talent after magic trick? (2024)

Britain’s Got Talent: Alex Magala swallows flaming sword

The Britain’s Got Talent auditions continued in Manchester on Monday with judges Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden. But a complicated magic trick which could have left a man in hospital, quickly descended into horror when the illusion went wrong leaving a panicked Simon Cowell ready to cancel the show.

The latest batch of auditions saw a very complicated illusion, in which the judges were asked to get involved.

Each judge was handed a key by the performers assistant and given instructions.

As the assistant handed out the keys, the escapologist was submerged in a huge vat of water.

The idea was the more the act went on, the keys which were handed to the judges would be eliminated one-by-one leading to the illusionist's quick escape.

However, in an almost fatal mistake, the assistant walked back onto the stage without eliminating David’s key, leaving the judges panicking.

David’s key was obviously the key that would release the performer from the water.

A source told The Metro: “It was horrible. David looked absolutely mortified as Simon started trying to signal producers to stop production and a medic was called in.

“It looked like it was part of the act to begin with, but it soon dawned on everyone that it wasn’t,’ they added.

As a result, the key was left on the judge's table while it was needed on the stage, whilst the performer looked to be struggling to breathe.

The source continued: “This was a real problem that threatened their safety.

“Thankfully they were able to correct themselves but there was a real moment where we thought it could end in disaster and it was clear that everyone was beginning to panic.”

Medics were called in to make sure that no damage had been done whilst the performer was left underwater.

But, is this the end of Britain's Got Talent? ITV has been contacted for comment by Express.co.uk.
